|Join me in my efforts to support Arthritis Foundation, Pacific Region!|
|Dear Friends, |
For the fourth year in a row, Roy Davies and I will be participating in the wonderful charity ride, The California Coast Classic, supporting the Arthritis Foundation. This charitable bike tour will be raising funds to support arthritis research and community-based education programs for men, women and children affected by arthritis.
My goal is to raise a minimum of $3,300 by August 31st in order to participate in this tremendous event. The event will run from September 22th Ė 29th 2018.
Over the course of eight days, we will be cycling & camping with 200 other riders from San Francisco to Los Angeles along the iconic Highway 1.
Miles: 525 miles
Avg mileage per day: 45 to 90 miles
Avg elevation gain: 3,175 ft.
Total elevation gain: 25,400 ft.
Joining us with be Kathy Rushforth in her first CCC ride and the Captain of our team, Megan Bent of TEAM MULLET.
Thatís right! This year, we ride courageously, not only in the fight against Arthritis, but in the name of fashion sense, as we all shall ride with mullets!
Our motto: Business in the front, party in the back.
Why do we do all this crazy riding (and hairstyling)?
(1) Every year, I attempt to participate in at least one charity event.
(2) Itís beautiful and challenging cycling. Matter of fact, the training, fundraising and the actual ride itself are some of the most challenging things I have ever done in my life.
(3) There are several wonderful people in my life that are severely affected by Arthritis and I ride to support them.
(4) Including some awesome folks that we ride with on the CCC. They are family to us.
So, what exactly does the Arthritis Foundation do???
The facts about arthritis are alarming - nearly 53 million Americans currently suffer from arthritis. Thatís 1 out of every 5 people. By the year 2020, the number of people with arthritis will almost double. The Arthritis Foundation devotes more than $11 million annually to research and is leading the way to more successful treatments for arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation also makes a difference in the lives of those affected by arthritis by providing programs that help people with arthritis and their families better understand and cope with their disease
BTW. The Arthritis Foundation is a 4-Star Charity according to Charity Navigator, Americaís premier charity evaluator. This is the highest rating a nonprofit organization can receive for its sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability / transparency.
